I did a lot of research before I bought my Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat. In all of my research Britax came out on top. I was impressed by the Marathon because of its many beneficial features. It had built in side impact protection, which I hoped I never had to see tested but still liked the thought of having. It would also allow me to keep my daughter in the same seat for a longer period of time.

As a matter of fact she could stay rear-facing in this Britax Marathon Convertible car seat even longer than other brands. The seat was made to allow an infant to stay rear-facing up to 35 pounds which is much higher than the average car seat.

However, the biggest selling point for me was the safety it offered. The seat was the highly recommended five point harness system. I knew I would have nothing else for my little one. Those who had used the product raved about its safety and that impressed me. What sealed the deal for me though was when I read a statement from some people who worked as EMTs and they said they would never place their children in anything but a Britax. I could hardly wait on my order to arrive so I could see if it was all I had heard it was. I ordered mine online and delivery was actually quite fast considering. We had another brand of car seat that we had been using previously but I wasn’t satisfied with it and I was eager to replace it with this new one. I admit my husband was skeptical about paying such a price for a car seat. I assured him we wouldn’t regret the purchase and he decided to take my word for it. I still think he was a little apprehensive though.

When the Britax Marathon Convertible car seat arrived I opened it like a child opening a birthday gift. I was so excited to get it. There had been many styles to choose from that were all cute. I chose a gender neutral pattern in case we have more children. After all, when you spend this much on a car seat you want it to last through the years. You really can’t go wrong though. All of the patterns were attractive.

My very first thought about the seat was how heavy it was. Compared to the infant seat we had been using previously it seemed huge. But it also seemed sturdy. Little did I know this would be my only real complaint about the car seat. It definitely isn’t one you want to carry around if you can avoid it, but it can be done.

My second observation on the Britax Marathon Convertible car seat was the padding. Even I could tell that this seat would be more comfortable for my daughter. It was well cushioned and just looked cozy. I placed her inside it before I ever put the seat in the car and she loved sitting in it. Even now she still loves to sit in her seat.

I dreaded installing the seat. I had a hard time installing her previous car seat and I knew this would be just as difficult. I was completely wrong. Installing the Marathon into my car was extremely easy. I normally use the LATCH method but I have also used the seat belt method in other cars. Both are quite easy to install. Once I installed this seat it did not move. I cannot even make the seat move an inch in any direction. It is definitely a stable seat.

I will say the Britax Marathon Convertible is a large seat. I have a mid-size sedan and it takes up a good bit of room. I have been able to get two other people in the back seat with the car seat but not large people. While some might view that as a flaw, I see the benefit in it. My daughter has a little more space of her own this way. Plus it just seems sturdier this way.

What I love most is how easy it is to get her in and out of the seat. The straps are wide and sturdy and they do not get all tangled like her previous car seat straps did. They also tighten evenly which was another problem we had before. There is Velcro on the site that keeps the straps out of the way when I go to buckle her in. Most car seats do not have that feature that I could find.

She likes the Britax Marathon Convertible car seat for its comfort and the fact it sits up higher than most. She can look out the window and if she wants to rest it keeps her head still enough to allow sleep. Even now that we’ve moved to forward facing she finds it to be a comfortable way to ride and we travel a lot.

I like that it has been crash tested, is stable and sturdy and grows with my daughter. I hope I never have to experience testing out how it will do in a crash, but I feel confident that the Britax Marathon Convertible would be the safest car seat to have if we were in one. As a matter of fact we loved it so much that we just bought a second one for my husband’s car. This way we don’t have to transfer it from car to car all the time. My sister is having a baby and I’ve told her I wouldn’t use any seat other than a Britax. Even my skeptical husband agrees.
