As a mom it is a scary thing to realize your child is outgrowing their car seat. It can only be safe if they fit in it properly. So when I noticed my son was getting too big for his Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat, I knew it was time to replace it. Honestly, the thought of looking at anything other than Britax never really crossed my mind but my husband had other ideas. He thought we should go with a lower cost booster seat for our 5 year old but I wasn’t ready to give up the five point harness. I stressed the safety concerns I had and he stressed the price difference. In the end I won the argument and I ordered the Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat.

I had a few reasons for choosing the Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat before I ever laid my eyes on the seat. The main reason I chose the seat was, of course, the high standards of safety that Britax was known for. We had used the previous car seat from the beginning with our son and I had nothing but rave reviews for anyone who asked. When it comes to my boy safety definitely takes top priority.

My second reason was the five point harness. Unlike most booster style seats the Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat is set up to use the harness until your child is 80 pounds. For those moms like me that aren’t willing to give up that safety net just yet this is great. My son was a little too big for his old car seat but he was nowhere near the 80 pound mark. However, when he was I would be able to switch the seat to a pure booster seat and use it until he reached 100 pounds. In most children this would get you through until they no longer needed a seat at all.

Finally, I couldn’t argue with the recommendations of others I knew who had upgraded to the Frontier as well. They all swore by the seat. Many shared their favorite benefits and touted the security and safety. I just felt all around better knowing my son was in a seat that was known for its safety above all else. But, what I thought wasn’t going to matter nearly as much as what my picky five year old felt about the seat. So I eagerly awaited its arrival to see his reaction.

I can honestly say that he was thrilled with his big kid seat. Being accustomed to Britax, I don’t think the extra comfort made an impact on him like it might on a child who had not previously experienced it. But he absolutely loved the fact that he had his own cup holders and arm rests. He felt grown up and I felt relieved that the transition would be much simpler than I had anticipated. Sometimes with him giving up those comfortable things was hard.

When it came time to install the seat I paid close attention to the reviews I found online. I didn’t just read the manual. I also watched a video that helped teach me how to install it. I will admit it was more complicated than the previous car seat, but I still had it secure in about 15 minutes. Not too bad if you ask me. I had my husband shake and try to move it and instead the car shook back and forth. So I know it is secure in the car and that is important to me as well. I don’t want to think if we get in an accident that the seat will move around.

It’s very easy to buckle and unbuckle my son into the seat. I use the armrests to hold the straps out of the way while I adjust the harness and it makes it a cinch. It also helps keep the straps from getting tangled up and causing me adding work and frustration. It has various heights for the harness and several positions for the buckle that help me to make sure my son is fit into the seat snugly. I don’t have to worry that I didn’t get him into the seat tightly.

Another great feature of Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat is that I can adjust the height of the headrest and harness without even removing my son from the seat. Most car seats require you to remove the seat and go through a lengthy process to adjust the straps. This one is a breeze. I just turn the knob and the height adjusts easily. This is great because my boy seems to grow more and more each day.

Some people find the added comfort foam around the head to be a nuisance. My son was used to it from his car seat so it wasn’t a problem. He rarely sleeps in the car anymore, but if we take a long trip it makes a nice pillow for him. It doesn’t hinder his ability to look around and he really doesn’t mind it at all. I would guess with some time those kids who are not accustomed to it would be able to adjust and find it comfortable.

The Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat is a sturdy seat with durable fabric that is easy to clean and maintain. As with all models spot cleaning will keep it free from messes for the most part. Removal of the cover isn’t that difficult if you want to thoroughly clean it.

If asked for a negative about the seat I’d be hard pressed to find one. It is a large seat so it is probably not the best choice for compact cars. Both of our cars are large and roomy so the Frontier works perfectly in them. But if you can manage to fit it into your vehicle it is worth the extra space it takes to know that your child is safe and secure. If you ever faced an accident you would want to know you had the best seat protecting your child. I firmly believe in the five point harness as long as possible and for that reason alone will highly recommend the Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat to anyone who will listen.
